Struck Tools Workshop 2013
Instructor: Jim Scott Class size: 8 The day will include: preparing a punch, a slitting chisel and a drift. These are normal length (6 to 8 inches) hand held tools without handles. We will be hand forging as individuals. We will heat treat using oil. Material used will be GM automotive coil spring stock, presumed to be 5160 alloy. The April 10 TGoM membership meeting will be held at Arms & Armor workshop. The folks at Arms & Armor will be giving an overview on their company, what they make, and how they make it. Their workshop will be the scene, located at 1101 Stinson Blvd in Minneapolis. Description: Tax time is almost upon us. Let’s use money as our raw material. Each student will make 2 billets from provided quarters (which are not worth a nickel any more). One will become a thin disk, the other a square bar. You will then manipulate the billet to bring out the pattern.
